Neo-Antial Syrup Overview
Neo-Antial is an active metabolite of loratadine, a non-sedating antihistamine It causes less sedation and psychomotor impairment than the older antihistamines because it penetrates the blood brain barrier only to a slight extent. Neo-Antial is used for the symptomatic relief of allergic conditions such as urticaria and hay fever
Indications
Neo-Antial is primarily indicated in conditions like Perennial thinitis, Urticaria, and can also be given in adjunctive therapy as an alternative drug of choice in Seasonal allergic rhinitis
Contraindication
Neo-Antial is contraindicated in conditions like Pregnancy, Porphyria, Breastfeeding
Side Effects
Neo-Antial produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Arrhythmias, Anaphylaxis, Angioedema, Extrapyrimidal symptoms, which are responsible for the discontinuation of Neo-Antial therapy. The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Neo-Antial are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Headache, Drowsiness Fatigue Myalgia, Palpitation, Dry mouth, Blurred vision, Urinary retensionX Pharyngitis, GI disturbance, Dry mouth
Warnings
Antihistamines (eg Neo-Antial) should be used with caution in prostatic hypertrophy, urinary retention, epilepsy, glaucoma, pyloroduodenal obstruction, hepatic disease, dose reduction may be necessary in renal impairment. Children and the elderly are more susceptible to side effects
High Risk Groups
Drug should not be given to Paediatrics, Pregnant Mothers, and Neonates. If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies
