Pregnancy
Floaid 5mg No evidence of risk in humans. Lactation: Caution advised or effect undetermined. Precautions: Do not substitute abruptly for inhaled or oral steroid therapy. Do not use for relief of acute symptoms. Discontinue if Symptoms of Churg-Strauss syndrome appear. Phenyl ketonuria with chewable tablet (contain aspartame).
Indications
Add-on therapy in mild to moderate asthma inadequately controlled by inhaled corticosteroids and short-acting beta-2 agonists. Exercise-induced broncho-constriction.Floaid 5mg
Dosag
e Adults: 10 mg daily at bedtime with or without food. Children: Prophylaxis of asthma: 6 mth-6 yr, 4 mg once daily in the evening, 6–15 yr, 5 mg once daily in the evening; 15–18 yr, 10 mg once daily in the evening. Symptomatic relief of seasonal allergic rhinitis in children with asthma: 15–18 yr, 10 mg once daily in the evening.
Advice
to patient Take with or without meals. Take granules directly or mix with applesauce, carrots, sauce or icecream. Do not mix in liquids. Take within 15 minutes after opening packet. Contact prescriber if there is constant abdominal upset, abdominal pain, skin rash, skin itching, unusual cough or congestion, worsening of asthmatic condition. To relieve headache, mild pain-killer may be taken. If you have aspirin sensitivity, avoid aspirin and NSAIDs during therapy. On start of therapy or change of dosage, patient should be watched carefully for suicidal tendency by caregiver or family.

Duration: >24 hrs. Absorption: Rapid. Metabolism. Extensively hepatic. Floaid 5mg Bioavailability: Tab: 10 mg, Mean: 64%; Chewable tab: 5 mg: 73% (63% when administered with a standard meal). Half-life elimination: 2.7-5.5 hrs; Mild-to-moderate hepatic impairment: 7.4 hrs. Time to peak: Tab: 10 mg: 3-4 hrs (fasting); Chewable tab: 4 mg (children 2-5 yrs): 2 hrs (fasting); Chewable tab 5 mg: 2-2.5 hrs (fasting); Granules: 2.3+ 1 hrs (fasting) and 6.4 2.9 hrs (with high-fat meal). Excretion: Faeces (86%). Urine (<0.2%).
Interactions
Phenobarbital, phenytoin, rifampicin, other enzyme inducers, gemfibrozil.
Adverse
effects Abdominal pain, headache, thirstrarely anaphylaxis, angioedema, seizure, elevated ALT/AST, cholestatic hepatitis, Churg-Strauss Syndrome (discontinue), GI upset, hyperkinesia.
